he Wichita Falls Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Sheppard Air Force Base Public Affairs Office is excited to announce tours of Sheppard for the community and visitors alike.
“The CVB is constantly working to promote the wonderful venues and attractions Wichita Falls has to offer,” said Lindsay Greer, CVB Director. “Sheppard Air Force Base is certainly a point of interest for our visitors and at the same time, we want our own citizens to be aware of what Sheppard does in our community.”
“This community tour is designed to be a partnership with the Wichita Falls Convention & Visitors Bureau, the surrounding communities and Sheppard Air Force Base. It is our goal to build a stronger relationship of trust with our local communities through transparency, education and openness of what we do behind the base gates,” said Frank Carter, Chief of Community Affairs at Sheppard Air Force Base.
Community tours of Sheppard will be offered the 3rd Tuesday of each month, beginning June 16, 2015. Participants must be at least 15 years old. Guests are invited to park at MPEC and a bus will shuttle tour participants to Sheppard AFB and back to MPEC. The tour bus will depart from the MPEC parking lot at 8:00am and tours will conclude at approximately 10:30am. The cost is free to attend.
“Many people in our community are unaware of the missions at Sheppard Air Force Base and the impact Sheppard has on our city. From a tourism standpoint, we are fortunate to have the fine men and women from Sheppard volunteer at most of our popular events and festivals so we want to showcase what they do every day,” Greer added.
Citizens that would like to attend the tours should register through the Convention & Visitors Bureau by calling (940) 716-5550 or email email@example.com. While the tours are free, pre-registration is required in order to gain base access. Deadline to sign up for each monthly tour is three days prior to the tour date. The media is also invited to attend any tour.
