One thing I love about my job is that I always know what’s going on in Wichita Falls, and when there are going to be fun events. Since I want to enjoy the years that I am living in the United States to the fullest extent, and want to be able to say that I have actually experienced all that Wichita Falls has to offer, visiting events is one of the priorities on my ‘to do list’! So of course I had to head out to the St. Patrick’s Day Street Festival!
Since the weather was great for a nice barbeque, we went to the festival around 9.00pm and saw that the party had already started hours before. To be honest, we went directly to the Iron Horse Pub, since we heard that it is comparable to the Irish Pubs we have in the Netherlands. For some reason, you always keep searching for things that you’re familiar with and that feel like home…
And indeed, it appeared to be quite similar to what we know in the Netherlands! There was a band playing and the atmosphere was really relaxed and fun. Everything was decorated in green and the bartenders were wearing kilts!
The atmosphere at the festival and in the pub reminded me of what we call the ‘Queens Birthday Party’ in the Netherlands. Except that we are wearing orange and celebrating our Queen. There are games for the kids, stands with food, a bar and live music. And of course: green drinks! Doesn’t sound tasty, but it actually was pretty good.
After spending a couple hours in the Iron Horse Pub we went home and I had a great evening. It felt like home for a while!
